  • Vintage Celery / Asparagus Dish, Pretzel Clear Depression Glass by Indiana Glass, Vegetable Serving Dish, (Discontinued)
  • Made in USA
  • Vintage: 1930's - 1980's
  • This beautiful pressed glass oval celery dish is in the Pretzel pattern, originally issued by Indiana Glass in the 1930's through 1960's in clear glass, also in amber, blue and teal.  Indiana Glass reissued the pattern in the late 1960's through the late 1970's, but this time in olive green as well as a gold-tone (like amber) carnival glass and also a milk glass version.  We are guessing this one is from the 1960's but we could not confirm if Indiana Glass re-issued the clear glass too, or clear is original to the 1930's only.  This dish works great as a bread or crackers tray, it's large enough for asparagus and of course, celery.  Could serve as a candy dish, for nuts, olives, or small appetizers. If you have three, they work great to house your forks,,  spoons and knives on a buffet table. We also carry the olive green and the amber carnival glass dish if you're interested.

Depression glass is clear or colored translucent machine made glassware that was distributed free, or at low cost, in the United States and Canada around the time of the Great Depression starting in the 1920's but continued past the depression into the 1950's.  Food manufacturers and distributors put a piece of glassware in boxes of food, as an incentive to purchase. Some movie theaters, gas stations and other businesses handed out pieces as a thank you for shopping at their establishment.
